Corona Virus – Prevention using Arduino

CoronaVirus ? Arduino ?

The aim of this video is to appreciate the Arduino and raspberry pi developers for creating devices that can prevent coronavirus (COVID-19) and inspire other developers around the world to come up with the idea and save the world from this deadly virus.

Why we need to worry

The World Health Organization on 11th March declared the fast-spreading Coronavirus outbreak a pandemic, confirming what has seemed clear for some time — the virus will likely spread to all countries on the globe.

At the time of writing this, 145,993 people all around the globe have been affected by this deadly virus, and 5440 people lost their lives. The numbers of affected people and dead people are growing exponentially. With this in mind, I searched google for making a device using Arduino or Raspberry pi, which can help us prevent this deadly virus, and I found three projects which I am going to discuss in this blog.

Project 1: Sentinel by Nick Bild

The first project I am going to discuss is Sentinel by Nick Bild, which provides a subtle reminder not to touch your face.

According to a 2015 study in the American Journal of Infection Control, people touch their faces more than 20 times an hour on average. About 44 percent of the time, it involves contact with the eyes, nose, or mouth. It is essential to avoid touching your nose, eyes, and mouth to stop the spread of this infectious disease.

For this, he comes up with a pair of glasses and an ultrasonic sensor mounted on the top of that. When an ultrasonic sensor detects an object nearby, a red warning LED on the frame of the glasses is flash, and by avoiding touching your face, you can prevent this virus because touching your face is a subconscious. That is a beginner level project to prevent coronavirus using Arduino, and you can make it in 2-3 hours.

Project 2: Coronavirus detector by R. Linte

Another project is by R Linte, Coronavirus detector, which uses Seeed Studio Grove – MLX90615 Digital Infrared Temperature Sensor and Arduino. He made a mask that contains infrared temperature sensors to detect the body temperature of himself and the person he has made contact with, and the results are shown in realtime on the mask using OLED. If the other person’s temperature is average, the RGB LED ring in the left eye part is green.

If the other person’s temperature exceeds 38℃, the RGB LED ring will turn to red color and be accompanied by an alert, indicating that he/she is a potential risk with Coronavirus. He can advise him to go to the hospital for tests and treatment. Both of the projects are present on Hackster. That is also a beginner level project and will take you 2 3 hours if you have all the components.

Project 3: Corona affected counter by Julian Bruegger

Another guy, Julian Brügger, made a counter of coronavirus cases and related data. He made this using Raspberry pi, LCD, and coronavirus Tracker API. The information updates every minute. And you do not need much hardware for this. The good news is if you want to try this project, you can find the complete tutorial and code.

The Coronavirus has impacted the tech industry gradually since the beginning of 2020. We see some creative projects using the commonly used components.

if you like reading this blog share this with your tech-loving friends and inspire them to build more creative projects.
